Design and color

When arranging furniture to achieve an overall continuity, it is appropriate to use a design which incorporates colors of your choosing.  A design may be a simple as a image that was seen in or on media.  Take a photo that is appealing to you and use the color, use the style and find furniture that matches it.
 
In this image the style is set by the braided oval rug, the plain board cupboard, ladder back chairs, a quilt framed on the wall, the fireplace and also note the size and colors.  White gray and brown may be soothing to someone and totally austere to others.
